Observed motorcycle trials is a skilled sport where a rider manoeuvres a bike through a designated area of land (called a section), using throttle, clutch and brake control and demonstrating good balance.
Within that section will be obstacles to traverse and coloured markers to pass between, all whilst the rider endeavours to keep their feet off the ground.
A typical trial will consist of 8 - 15 sections, set out over anything from 2 - 4 laps.
The rider incurs penalty points (marks lost) for "footing" or failing to fulfil other conditions. Unlike all other motorsports, speed is not the key to success.
And the least points at the end of the trial, the better!
With the ever-growing popularity of electric Trials bikes from some of the major manufacturers (OSET, TRS, E-Motion), riders can start competing from the age of 4.
Most clubs will set out between 4 - 6 different routes increasing in difficulty (typically; Beginner, Sportsman, Novice, Intermediate, Expert, Elite) so that everybody can find a route that matches their skill level.
Motorcycle trials is a versatile sport, giving people the confidence to ride a motorbike off-road in a skilful manner. It really is an enjoyable sport, whether as a competitor or as a spectator.
To join KYTC, the simplest route is direct through the ACU: - https://acu.sport80.com/public/wizard/a/1581
If you don't currently have an ACU Trials Licence, you must join a club first, then apply for correct (Adult or Youth) Trials Licence, and have an ACU Registration as a Trials Competitor.
